COVID-19 aggregate in Kerala reaches 39,708; 1,564 fresh additions

Kerala posted its highest ever single day spike of 1,564 COVID-19 cases, including 15 health care workers as the total infection count in the state touched 39,708. 766 people have recovered from the disease on Thursday, taking the total number of those cured to 25,692.

Health Minister KK Shailaja said 766 people have recovered from the disease on Thursday, taking the total number of those cured to 25,692.
Of the new cases detected today, 1,380 were locally transmitted.
"1,380 cases were locally transmitted and the contact source of 98 was not traceable. While 60 returned to the state from abroad, 100 came from other states.
The state also reported three deaths on Thursday," the Minister said in a release.
With three more deaths, the COVID-19 toll climbed to 129.
Thiruvananthapuram, the worst-affected district, recorded the most number of cases on Thursday with 434, followed by 202 each in Palakkad and Malappuram districts, 115 from Ernakulam, and others.
Shailaja said 15 healthcare workers were infected today, out of which five are from Thiruvananthapuram district, four from Malappuram district, two each in Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode districts, and one each in Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
"Currently 1.53 lakh people are under observation in various districts of the state, out of which 12,683 are in hospitals. The state had tested 31,270 samples in the last 24 hours," she noted.
At least 16 new hotspots were added while 12 were excluded from the list taking the total number to 544.
