Ahead of Himachal results, Pratibha Sinbgh throws hat in ring for CM's post

Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Singh, wife of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, on Wednesday indicated that “Holly Lodge” – the family's ancestral home – remained interested in the CM's post if the party wins the assembly election.

Shimla | Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Singh, wife of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, on Wednesday indicated that “Holly Lodge” – the family's ancestral home – remained interested in the CM's post if the party wins the assembly election.
Virbhadra Singh died last year. His MLA son Vikramaditya contested the November 12 polls from Shimla Rural. But mother Pratibha Singh, who is an MP from Mandi, was not in the frat.
If the party picks her for the post, she would need to be elected to the state assembly within the next six month.
She told reporters that many people felt that for the first time Virbhadra Singh was not in their midst and they had to repay a debt to him.
“If a majority of the winning Congress candidates take the name of Holly Lodge and Raja Saheb, and recognise his legacy, that sentiment will reach the party high command,” she added.
"Whatever is decided by the high command will be acceptable to us," she made it clear.
Her remarks to the media came a day ahead of the counting of votes cast on November 12. Exit polls have predicted a close contest in the state, which in the past few decades has alternated between the Congress and the BJP.
She said people voted for the legacy of the former CM in this assembly election and last year's bypolls for one parliamentary and three assembly seats.
“People remember the development work undertaken during the Congress governments in the past and the Congress is all set to form the government. We will take the work of Virbhadra Singh ji forward,” she said.
The Congress leader said there are no fissures in the party in Himachal Pradesh and it stands united.
Her son Vikramaditya Singh said the Holly Lodge has always been the centre of Himachal's politics and the family will continue to raise the voice of people and the region.
Singh said senior leaders including observer Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and AICC in-charge for the state Rajiv Shukla are reaching here.
Responding to a question on possible horse trading after the results are out, he said people give the mandate to the MLAs and their responsibility is to respect it.
The CM aspirants in the party include Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, Congress campaign committee head Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, and former ministers Asha Kumari, Kaul Singh and Ram Lal Thakur.
